Battledress Shellhole regrets to announce the Sunset Call of 25331 Moth Preston Barnard on Friday 10 July 2026. Sunrise 20 MAY 1949. Moth Preston joined the Order on 7 April 2022.
Moth Preston retired from the Navy as a Captain after almost 40 years service. He was OC of many ships and land bases but notably of the SAS Drakensberg. In 1994 the SAS Drakensberg entered Zeebrugge in Belgium, making it the first South African warship to visit the country.
He was instrumental in forming the SA Navy Reserve Force and headed the planning committee in 2013. Finally he left the SA Navy in 2015. Preston is survived by his 2 daughters and his son.
A true officer and gentleman and a respected MOTH who was loved and respected by many.
