We were so excited and looking forward to today’s ride! Meeting with old friends and new at 8:15 and leaving for Wolseley via Du Toit’s Kloof pass which as always was a challenge with the wind. Stopping for a photo opportunity at the top of the pass with the breathtaking views is always a winner. We then headed onward to Wolseley and The Sir Garnet for a fantastic brunch and some ice cold refreshments. Andre and his team were fantastic hosts. After a leisurely brunch it was back to Cape Town via Bains Kloof pass with the narrow road and a warning of leopards for the next 23kms, no sightings of leopards though but a few baboons were sighted. The pass was narrow and definitely not to be attempted when inebriated or in the dark. The natural splendour showcased on both passes was fantastic! A great ride and time was had by all. Looking forward to the next one.

January 2023 (Trip to Wolseley)
My trip to visit Sir Garnet started with a beautiful sunrise over the Hottentot Holland mountains. Putting on full safety gear at 7am it was already 27C. Biker’s are mad, confirmed. We we met up with the total crowd of 16 at a fuel stop on the N1 in the Winelands district. After coffee, Red Bull, chocolate bars and a few pain killers we departed for the majestic mountain passes of the Cape. Just when I thought our fearless leader was totally lost we came across the gem of the Wolseley village and hotel and pub. Rumor has it that it was never won in a raffle swindle during the early sixties and today still remains in the hands of the original swindler. One wonders if he was also a Moth? Cold brown drinks were enjoyed by all followed by a huge scrumptious breakfast, things that make a biker’s heart beat faster. We left after a great time enjoyed with fellow bikers and bomb-shelled to our homes and local drinking holes. Temperatures were in the high 30’s and even the low 40s. A day to remember and enjoyed by the brothers and sisters of the best club in the country. Viva MMA Cape Town Viva!
Your humble scribe
Killswitch.

October 2022 (Canon Ride)
Just before COVID the idea started germinating and was spurred on by COVID. People and bikers were desperate to interact with their fellow bikers, but we were hamstrung by the restrictions.
So, the idea of having an open-air event took shape in the guise of a scavenger type ride and the “Cannon Ride” was born.
After many meetings and planning the resultant battle plan was formulated, the riders would be given clues, that they would have to decipher, visit, receive recognition that they were there, hand the evidence in at the final clue, Red Barn Shellhole and the party could begin.
Here follows a collage of the events and fun on the day.
The Advertising flier
Riders started arriving at the first Clue – Cape Town Castle
Even some local SANDF members were roped in for the photo shoot.
The second clue was two cannons along Kloof Nek drive, that overlook Camps Bay.
Here one of the MMA marshals, Morph, takes aim at Robin Island from the top of Kloof Nek.
The third clue was in Houtbay at Karbonkel bay adjacent to the Fish on the Rocks restaurant. Here some MMA can be seen “Riding the Cannon”.
Houtbay looked like “Normandy” the beaches were swarming with Cannon Riders.
Finally, riders started pouring into the Red Barn, the final clue, after a good ride and some refreshments along the way.
Three cheers for MOTH Anthony and Joan that came all the way from Mossel bay to attend the event, well done!
Caroline (OumaFOMMA) and Ilse (Tokko) show off some of the many prizes up for grabs.
The three main prizes, Large Brass, Medium Steel, and Small Bronze cannons.
And the happy first prize winner of the Brass Cannon from The Wild Bunch.
MC for the day Sagittarius Serpentines hands out some of the prizes while Zorba lurks in the background,
There was a great turnout.
Everyone waits in anticipation for the next prize to be drawn.
Morph bites his lip, hoping for that big 5L can of oil, that will get him home.
The music played as MOTH’s and bikers socialized, the comment was heard “These’ bikers as such nice people”
More getting to know each other, biking clubs and MOTHs in the outside boma.
As MOTH’s and Bikers, we always remember our fallen, the piper Tony Reis plays after the MOTH salute, two minutes of silence and cannon firing.

Cape Town Cycle Tour
Cape Western MMA doing duty as repair marshals during the Cape Town Cycle Tour (CTCT), It’s all for charity so time and fuel given willingly.
Our duties – individual bikes leave at half our intervals and ride with cyclists offering assistance to supply and fit tubes, pump up tires, fix chains, tools and moral support. Most important, if a rider goes down in the road and is injured, park bike between approaching riders to act as a shield against the herd.
After Pegasus
Ellis and Pegasus loaded with access stickers, flag, tools and spanners ready to take up CTCT duties,

Knights of St Christopher charity ride
MMA have assisted Knights of St Christopher in marshalling their charity ride to Andrew Murray Children’s home since starting their drive some 6 years ago, helping this well deserving children’s shelter in Wellington.
Ride started at Bellville Velodrome 08hr30 where a marshal and rider briefing kicked off proceedings with about 250 bikes heading down the N1 toward Wellington, shepherded by the disciplined MMA marshals, looking snazzy in their hi-viz vests.
Arriving safely at the AMCH, bikes parked, we started queuing for a HUGE breakfast, prepared and served by KoSC, home staff and the kids and a grand job they did, other than a long ride there is nothing that make a biker happy than a good breakfast, with beans!
The feast was followed by KoSC thanking all support and sponsors, then much anticipated prize giving where the MMA cleaned up, most notable the prize for oldest biker, well done Julian.
A quick whip round between the MMA guys and girls yielded R1100 that was donated to the home by Frank our vice chairman, a great day was had by all.
After proceedings the MMA drifted off to support the Wellington, Komeshu shell hole’s bowls day (Just around the corner), where bar stocks were severely depleted.
