Sunset Call: Moth Bryan Hurn Marshall Smuts Shellhole 24 June 2020

With great sadness Marshal Smuts Shellhole has to inform, that past Moth, 22427 Bryan Hurn has answered the Sunset Call and has gone to meet the Higher Command.

A veteran of the Malayan- and Suez campaigns where he served as Fighter Pilot for the RAF, Bryan also held the distinction of piloting a plane that broke through the sound barrier. He transferred from the RAF to the SAAF during 1958 and remained an active pilot until about 1966. On leaving the SAAF he farmed in the Dordrecht district and became a Moth in 1968.

On retirement he settled in Somerset West, he rejoined the Order at Marshal Smuts during October 2014 before taking a transfer to Comrades / Algoa Shellhole in Port Elizabeth. Ill health unfortunately forced his resignation from the Order during June 2018.

Sincere condolences are extended to his widow Hilda, family, friends and Shellhole Welfare NCO Jimmy Gill who kept in regular contact with Bryan.

He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Bryan Hurn
