Remembrance Day Ceremony – Mt. Memory 2024
Once again a very well supported event commemorated 9th November at the M.O.T.H. National Wall of Remembrance at Mt. Memory. A large contingent of Moth from Durban, along with Shellhole Supporters and MOTHWA, made up the bulk of attendees, with many fellow Moth and family attending from the KZN Midlands, Southern KZN, and further afield. MOTH National Vice-Chairman Glen Smit presented the Ceremony address, with Moth (Padre) Johann Du Plessis delivering the sermon and prayer segment of the Ceremony.
Despite the distance to our National Shrine of Remembrance located at the Champagne Sports Resort in the Drakensberg, Moth, Shellhole Supporters, MOTHWA, and other Veteran Organizations, as well as visitors to the resort, and family members, still make the effort to present themselves for this ceremony which is indeed encouraging, and is most appreciated.
This year a special Good Service award ‘G’ was bestowed on both Piper Doug McMaster and his wonderful wife Margaret after the ceremony. Piper Doug now in his twilight 80’s and despite not being a Moth, has availed himself for over 40 years twice a year, to pipe the Lament during wreath placement at the shrine. Margaret, his wife has supported the Moth in its endeavours for just as long. They traverse from Ladysmith (a fair distance from the Shrine), for each ceremony.
A special presentation was then given to the resort Manageress Bianca, with thanks for her continued support, and to wish her well during her expected and imminent anticipated new arrival from the stork. We wish you blessings.
To the Champagne Sports Resort Team and Management, who worked tirelessly in the background once again to ensure seating, bottled water, lunch and so many other finer details we as visitors to this fine establishment do not acknowledge as efforts, as a member of the M.O.T.H National Executive and on behalf of the Order, we and I am sure my fellow Moth, thank you for your continued support. 5 STARS.
To all MM&M committee members, Shellhole Supporters, MOTHWA and fellow Moth, who assisted in ensuring that the day and indeed the ceremony was a success despite the challenges of distance, location and heat, I once again thank you all sincerely for your efforts.
