From Journey’s End Shellhole meeting on Wednesday 17th Feb, Old Bill Wayne Tarr needed a work party to paint the outer walls of their ‘Log Cabin Shellhole’ to start at 08,00hours and also to cut the long grass. Hands went up from those attending the meeting (10 out of 23 members) that were at meeting & Better ‘Ole Shellhole had raided them with Mike Lee, Skippy Michell, Erich Hendricks & the War Correspondent in attendance. Skippy & I put up our hands to assist in the work party. Late Friday night early Sat morning saw us in Durban with some very nice rain. My question in rising early, with the rain was there to be a work party as everything was going to be wet, and how does one cut wet grass ? ? Well the work party met around 08,00 hours. Old Bill Wayne Tarr,(ducked home to get the weed eater and his lawnmower)
Graham Moller, Rick Andries ( Chairman of S.A. Legion Durban) Chicks van Rensburg, Vic Hardmann, With Derek Kemp & Terry Havemann (Dep Old Bill) arriving a bit later with Skippy Michell & War Correspondent to work from Better ‘Ole Shellhole. True Comradeship and Mutual help !
There were no beers until the job was completed ! Done was the operative ! What a job well done ! It was a very hot and humid day and all were sweating most profusely. Skippy and I had other plans in that we were going to be on a MOTH Raid of Better ‘Ole (Pinetown) to O’Pip/ Florence Nightingale that would be meeting at the MOTH Bartle Road MOTH Cottages at 14,00 hours. A quick couple of beers in the cabin and we were off ! Journey’s End – Thank you.
Well Skippy and I dashed away, as I said after a few quick ice cold chibulies (beers) to head off to clean up by bath/shower and head off to Bartle Road O’Pip’s meeting at 14,00. Straight after the meeting O’Pip/Florence Nightingale were going to have a QUIZ for all that were present. 19 people in all, 7 of Moth O’Pip 7 visitors of which there were 4 MOTH from Better ‘Ole and 5 others ! What an amazing fun quiz organised by the Old Bull Howard Prothero ! I reckon there had to have been 150 picture questions that had to be answered in about 4 minutes per 10/20 pictures per page.
The winner was Clive Slater’s team of 4 with Eddie Kotzer with 89 points, 2nd th Better ‘Ole team of Skippy Michell, Erich Hendricks, Mike Lee & War correspondent. With 84 points, and John Kennedy’s tam (Victory) 61 and then Daisy’s team with 60 – What a fun afternoon – Thank you Howard & your wife Beth for the Quiz ! !
