To set the record straight, the Moth Office sent out a circular recently to all its members confirming a disbanded building that has been hi-jacked by people looking for accommodation, does not belong to the MOTH. As a result of the condition of the building the “tenants” have been evicted.
30+ Years ago this building, which was built on Council Ground with a long term lease, was given back to the JHB Council by the ” MOTH Southern Transvaal Provincial Dugout”. This building then became a school for a while. See official letter sent to members of the MOTH below.

Fellow Moths,
MOTH CENTRE, JOHANNESBURG
There has been a number of reports in Johannesburg-based newspapers and social media
outlets regarding the eviction of a number tenants by the Johannesburg City Council of what
used to be the MOTH Centre in Braamfontein, Jo’burg.
Please note that this building, now known as Moth Transitional House on what is now called
Sophie de Bruyn Street, reverted back to the City Council in the early 1990’s and the MOTH
has had absolutely no input or interest in the edifice at all since that time. The tenants and
the current state of the building have thus been the responsibility of Johannesburg City Council for over 30 years.
Yours in Comradeship
Moth Brian Porter
General Secretary
