Sunset Call Moth Angus Walker – Marshall Smuts Shellhole 23 Dec 2021

With great sadness, Marshal Smuts Shellhole has to inform that 19505, Moth Angus Walker answered the Sunset Call and has gone to meet his Glory with the Higher Command one day after his 90th birthday!

A dedicated Moth who joined the Order at our Shellhole during 1998, Moth Angus served as Adjutant, Welfare Officer and Honorary Padre of the Shellhole for many years. For his services to the Shellhole, Angus received the Certificate of Comradeship during July 2010 and in April 2019 was afforded Life Membership; an honour he was extremely proud of!  For the last number of years he was housed at the Nightingale Frail Care Centre at Vönke Park.

Angus started his military career in the early 1950s as a volunteer soldier at the Transvaal Horse Artillery. After having obtained the rank of captain, he transferred to the Army Airwing where he qualified as a pilot. During the mid-1960s the Army Airwing was disbanded and taken over by the SAAF. Angus then qualified as a Bosbokkie and Kudu pilot, completed five tours of duty to the Border while he was already in his forties and became OC of the Squadron stationed at Lanseria Airport. With the rank of major, Angus retired from the SAAF during 1985 but kept his commercial pilot’s license active for a number of years thereafter.

A devoted Christian during his life on this earth; Angus will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Sincere condolences are extended to his widow Audrey, family and friends. As per his wishes, a private Ash scattering ceremony will be held at the Shellhole Garden of Remembrance early in the new year.
