A sad day for Mothdom

MOTH PASSCHENDAELE/SOMME handed in their charter on the 21st November 2015, at the Moth Southern Gauteng District meeting. The 2 shellholes, PASSCHENDAELE & SOMME were both initially chartered in 1927. During their closing meeting the Old Bill Patrick Alfonso, donated their remaining monies to Moth Cottesloe Homes, Moth Mutual Aid and Warrior Oasis Cottages.

Most of the members of PASSCHENDAELE/SOMME have transferred to Oasis Shellhole and we hope they enjoy their new homes.

PASSCHENDAELE/SOMME will be remembered as a fun Shellhole that was always well represented at all Moth Functions. They were also a Shellhole that donated large sums of money to Moth Charities. Who will ever forget the long distance raids they did to Zimbabwe, leaving Johannesburg and stopping off in Pretoria to pick up the additional Moths to enjoy a good raid. As many as 60 moths would go on these raids. They loved Potjiekos competitions, winning many and they organised many.

Deputy Old Bill, Moth Joe Lawrie says a few words about the Shellhole and thanks all who gave him support while he was on with PASSCHENDAELE/SOMME. Joe was the most senior exec member, having served on the committee going back to when they held meeting at the Old Johannesburg Fort. We wish him well with his transfer to KZN in January 2016.
