Shellholes Celebrate 80th Birthdays

Back in 1946, nine shellholes popped up! Now, only three remain: Marshall Smuts Shellhole in Cape Western, Castiglione Shellhole in The Orange Free State, Northern Cape and Cinder City in Southern Kwazulu Natal. On Saturday 11th April, these shellholes celebrated in their own special way. The event kicked off with a video call featuring the three shellholes, the National Chairman, R1 Shellhole (who have a twinning agreement with Cinder City) and Old Bill from The Orange Free State, Northern Cape. At 18h00, Old Bill of the Order Leon Robertson joined the meeting at Marshall Smuts Shellhole. The video conference was officially opened by Old Bill Philip McLachlan of Marshall Smuts. The National Chairman then gave a heartfelt congratulations to the three shellholes on their 80th birthdays. The three shellholes then shared gifts, each congratulating the other on their accomplishments. The video conference wrapped up after the three shellholes toasted each other.  Marshall Smuts then enjoyed a formal sit down meal in the form starters, Roast Beef and Vegetables followed by a choice of puddings.  Cinder City being from Kwazula Natal celebrated with true Indian Curries, while Castiglione enjoyed a traditional braai.
